09 ALIGNING OUR PROCESSES TO MEET NEEDS OF INDUSTRY In order to ensure WSI is suitably equipped to meet the needs of the building and construction industry, the Institute's Building Industry Skills Centre (BISC) was restructured. The restructure involved greater integration between WSI's traditional building and construction qualifications with licensing, recognition and assessment services. The realignment foreshadowed the shift towards cross-institute academies being launched in 2013. PROGRAMS TARGETED TO MEET SPECIFIC ENTERPRISE NEEDS Enterprises benefit from having programs adapted to suit their specific needs and in 2012 there were many great examples of WSI doing this successfully. An agreement with builder Eden Brae Homes led to a unique quality assurance project. Nirimba College provided expertise in bricklaying to Eden Brae Homes construction supervisors to assist the organisation to implement consistent bricklaying standards. The success of the project, which commenced in November 2012, was put down to WSI's thorough research into the needs of Eden Brae Homes. In 2012 WSI worked with eight organisations to improve English literacy and numeracy for 190 of their sta members. The Workplace English Language and Literacy (WELL) programs were adapted to suit each workplace and vocational skills were included in the training. Associated Gaskets were one such organisation benefiting from this partially government-funded program. The manufacturing organisation enrolled 24 employees into WELL programs and reported immediate benefits.
