TAFE WSI - 2012 YEAR IN REVIEW 28 2012 YEAR IN REVIEW COMMUNITY CAPACITY BUILDING Lead initiatives with government and non-government organisations to build stronger local communities. Local communities can be a great support for individuals by providing advocacy, security and an opportunity to work towards common goals. WSI supported many communities in 2012 through the provision of training services and provided strategic advice on VET delivery and support in community consultations. PROGRAMS TARGETED TO THE NEEDS OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES WSI was involved in many programs which aimed to boost the capacity and impact of local communities in 2012. WSI delivered a number of programs in partnership with men's health and wellbeing not-for-profit organisation, the Australian Men's Shed Association. One such program saw 30 mature-aged unemployed men gain skill sets in small machinery, employability and foundation skills. A unit of the Diploma in Remedial Massage qualification was the impetus for linkage with a number of community groups such as health centre groups, Blue Mountains Cancer Support, and an aged care service supporting people with dementia. New training agreements saw WSI deliver qualifications overseas in a number of locations including China, Fiji, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Hong Kong and Vietnam. One such example is the Certificate III in Fitness which commenced delivery in 2012 to students in Abu Dhabi.
