TAFE WSI - 2012 YEAR IN REVIEW 12 2012 YEAR IN REVIEW STUDENT OUTCOMES Improve learning outcomes and enhance pathways to further study and employment. We are in the business of providing opportunities for students, enterprises and local communities to grow and flourish through relevant, practical and recognised skills and qualifications. The outcomes of our students are therefore the measure of our success. Key strategies to ensure the best outcomes in 2012 included quality resources, equipment and teaching strategies, work experience and industry networking opportunities, and pathways for employment and further training. CONTEMPORARY EQUIPMENT, QUALITY OUTCOMES WSI prides itself on providing individuals with relevant skills which can be translated into an industry setting. To enable this development of relevant skills our facilities and equipment are regularly updated and expanded. In May 2012, the jointly owned Marine Bridge Simulator was launched by the Hon Adrian Piccoli MP, Minister for Education. WSI, along with TAFE NSW -- Sydney Institute, invested in this equipment which is located at the Maritime and Aviation section of Ultimo College. The facility will equip students with a high level of competence for the maritime industry in roles from Deck Hand to Ship's Captain on a variety of vessel classes. The Marine Bridge Simulator can simulate any port in the world, providing 'real time' experience on board. Software provided with the facility recreates actual vessels, including their manoeuvring characteristics, in a range of virtual environments. These virtual environments are reconstructions of harbours and coastal areas with the full gamut of sea and weather conditions. The hardware components provide a 3D physical environment to simulate that of a working ship.
